Shift From Training Teams To Mandatory Online Courses

When I was working in a civil service post – in an ever changing Ministry, there was a shift over from having departmental trainers to online subject focused courses.  I used to like going up to London for a week’s really good social interaction, I learned a great deal about the tasks to be undertaken but also got to know various colleagues from other offices within the Ministry.  There was a limit though on how much could be presented and actioned during that period.  The cost of getting these colleagues up to the training venue enormous and on top of that, everyone more than 90 minutes away had to be put up in hotels and fed for the week.  The changeover to mandatory online courses had eventual budgetary benefits, the courses were ours to keep and could be updated regularly as new statutes came along.  I guess the trainers became online training gurus!
