We Don’t Always Know Where We’re Heading

We don’t always know what we want to do for years ahead, when we’re still making our way through school.  It always seemed a rather strange thing to ask a child – and what do you want to do when you grow up sonny . . . . After all, we don’t really know what we want to do tomorrow or a week away, let alone ten years time after school and university have been gone through!  However, we do have to address this very important question in some form or other so as to make the best choices at school.  When I was going through senior school, we didn’t have to worry so much about future proofing our career – we only had a set number of O levels we could take – my only difficult decision I recall was having to drop history to take extra commercial studies.  That was a good choice though as all my working life, I have been an excellent typist and personal secretary – due entirely to that decision I made at school!
